Huge Dynamics

My first attempts with HDR (high dynamic range) imaging. I can set my camera to AEB (auto exposure bracketing) to quick fire three simultaneous shots which take a range of under, over and correctly exposed. Then using a plugin filter for photoshop, Photomatix, the three images are merged to form a single photo.

BENT makes two excellent music videos

Thom York 'Harrowdown Hill' utilizes the whole tilt shift miniature effect plus a bit of time lapse.

Modest Mouse 'Whale Song' , has a delicious mixture of live-action, animation, stop motion and stereographic techniques. The overall result is poetic, clever and extremely surreal.

Hopeless Romanticism

When it comes to movies I can be a very emotional person, and lately that means quite a few tears...

The Capulet Crypt; possibly the most beautiful place I've never been.
from Romeo + Juliet -1996 film by Baz Luhrmann

I saw the new film (500) days of Summer over the weekend- an anti-romantic comedy which has that bittersweet way about it that I hate to love. With an epic soundtrack too.

If anything, it reminded me a little of Gardenstate - its loss of innocence, coming of age and unrequitted love in a strange and funny way.

And this short film, The Water, initially intended as a music video for the song 'the water' by Feist is weird and beautiful. Bear with the silence (it lasts the first 10 minutes) because its worth it. I'm not sure how to interpret it completely, but perhaps that is what makes it so appealing.
